Couch Cushions Replacement

New Furniture

The unthinkable happens: you spill red wine all over your new couch. The stain won't come out and you're faced with the prospect of replacing the cushion. If your furniture is still under warranty, you may be able to obtain a replacement cushion from the manufacturer. At the very least, assuming your couch is still in stock, you may be able to order matching fabric and make your own replacement cushion case, or hire a seamstress to do it for you.

Alternatives to Couch Cushions Replacement

If a proper replacement from the manufacturer is not an option, don't give up. There are plenty of ways to revamp your couch cushions.

Repair the Cushion

For sagging cushions, try replacing the foam yourself. Remove the upholstery and carefully measure the dimensions of your cushion. Visit a local craft store and choose foam of a similar thickness to that of your other cushions. Replace the worn-out foam with new, springy foam.

Conceal the Evidence

Some rips and stains are beyond repair. You can flip the cushion and try to forget about it. Have your couch steam cleaned if the "good" side of the cushion is looking less than fresh. Add a few throw pillows to distract from any remaining damage. No one will be the wiser.

Another way to conceal a damaged cushion is to purchase a slip cover for your couch. You can choose a new color or pattern, and it will look like you got a brand new couch for a fraction of the price! It is also possible to purchase slip covers for the cushions only.

Get Thrifty

You may be concerned about getting a good match to your existing cushions. Rather than just replace one cushion, why not replace them all? Visit a thrift store like the Salvation Army or Goodwill and look for a very cheap couch with cushions sized similarly to yours. You may be lucky enough to find a set that doesn't clash with your couch's fabric, otherwise you will need to recover them or use a slipcover.

Replace Your Couch

If all else fails, it might be time to purchase a new couch, or at least one that is new to you. Find in inexpensive new couch at IKEA or watch your local furniture stores for sales. Visit thrift stores, scour Craigslist, or better yet, find a friend who is moving. If your friend is replacing his or her couch you may be able to get a good deal on the old one. In some cases, it can be cheaper and easier to just replace your couch rather than try to find proper cushion replacements.
