You may be surprised to learn that the many of Macy's outlets have names that vary from city to city. Some of the store names include Macy's Clearance Center, Macy's Furniture Gallery, and Macy's Furniture and Floor Covering Outlet. The newer Macy's outlets however, operate under the name of Macy's Furniture Gallery. Macy's has consolidated many of the former locations under the umbrella of its Furniture Gallery stores.

You can find several of the original Macy's furniture outlet stores along the west coast. The oldest one is still very popular is located in Union City, California. Some of the reviews for this outlet claim savings on first quality items up to 70 and 80 percent.

The outlet has all kinds of furniture and area rugs. You may need to time your visit for days when new shipments are put out on the floors. Many times the sales at the outlet are not advertised and you may luck up and find a 25 percent off sale. Most of the furniture is retired showroom pieces, returned items and damaged pieces. Just like any outlet, you'll want to inspect the furniture thoroughly before purchasing. Go into the store with your eyes wide open. If you know it may be a hit or miss trip, you won't be disappointed. Some stores have a delivery service while others are strictly cash and carry. You'll want to be sure you understand the delivery status before purchasing something you might not be able to get home.

Two other well-known Macy's outlets are located in Los Angeles. Macy's Mission Road Furniture is known for good quality furniture at deep discount prices. The second location is found on the third floor of Macy's Men's and Furniture Store, formerly known as Santa Ana Main Place Mall (a Robins May store purchase by Macy's flagship, Federated Group around 2005). This outlet location is reported to have a large selection of sofas, chairs and mattresses. These are just a couple of the older outlets that preceded the Macy's Furniture Gallery model.

In addition to the already discounted prices you'll find the Macy's outlets, many of the pieces of furniture have second tags that are colored to indicate a second discount percentage that you'll need to take off of the main price tag. This percentage can be 10 percent, 20 percent, 30 percent and in many cases more. You'll want to make sure you check these tags because this is part of the great savings you can find.

The outlets go through the store's inventory every two months or so and if a piece of furniture has been on the floor too long, another discount is given on the piece until it sells. That's why you can save 70 percent on a purchase. If you find a piece of furniture that you like, you may want to keep checking until it's further discounted. Of course, there is the risk that someone else might purchase it before you do.

In the outlets, you'll find a mixture of furniture. Some are sold in sets, while others are a mismatch of odds and ends. Many of the pieces of furniture in the various outlets were formerly on display in the Macy's retail stores. You'll want to check out the pieces carefully because some of the furniture may have small defects such a nick from having been on display in the showrooms. Besides the furniture, you can usually find mattress sets in these outlets and reap tremendous savings.

Some of the other furniture pieces offer you more savings because this furniture is either discontinued pieces, overstocked items reduced for quick sales, or furniture that has some minor damages.

This is a quarterly furniture sale that is usually announced in local papers in the form of a display ad. During this sale, all of the furniture in the gallery is reduced an additional 30 percent. You'll want to arrive early on the sale date so you can select the perfect furniture for your home.

You won't find the majority of furniture carried by Macy's Furniture Gallery stores in the Macy's retail stores. You'll find all kinds of furniture in a gallery store. Some of the furniture pieces are discontinued styles while others are showroom pieces. There are 50 Macy's Furniture Gallery stores located throughout the United States, so you should be able to find one in your state. You'll need to browse through the vast selection, just like you would at any of the other outlets. A typical Macy's Furniture Gallery has around 35,000 square feet so be sure to wear comfortable shoes; it may take you some time to cover the large facility.
