LoveToKnow spoke with Carrie Sinclair, manager of Deeco Consumer Products, distributor of Art Deck-Oh! products.

CS: I travel throughout the world looking for innovative products geared towards making the most of the outdoor room. I noticed that most outdoor furniture is heavy (wrought iron), bulky and geared toward traditional tastes.

I love coming out with products that are multi-functional. Not only does this furniture serve as seating, but it also adds an artistic element to the outdoor room.

I wanted to make sure that we came out with furniture that is meant for all seasons, lightweight so that you can move it around easily, able to be stored away if necessary and most important to be space saving. Many of us don’t have huge backyards or patios and we need to make the most of the space that we do have. All of these pieces fit those needs without the big price tag.

CS: All of the Art-Deck-Oh!® sets come with four chairs and one table. Each has its own unique way of interlocking to become a space saving unit. The Deck-Cetra has an additional feature allowing it to be used stacked up as shelving and cabinet space or opened up to be four chairs and one long table with storage.

CS: Our styles satisfy a variety of tastes and budgets. Creating outdoor furniture which allows you to enjoy the backyard, patio, or balcony, in-style and without the big price tag.

Storage is a big issue for most of us. The innovative design incorporates the need for space saving products that are both stylish and functional and can be incorporated into any environment.

Deck-Cetra

CS: Our Art-Deck-Oh!® furniture is made from eco-friendly polyethylene, and is strong, lightweight and will tolerate various temperatures. [It also] will have a much longer life than traditional wicker furniture. The all-weather wicker resin material is made of polyethylene (PE), which is the resin of choice for durable environmentally friendly and recyclable outdoor furniture.

Polyethylene is a plastic with a very high molecular weight which is highly resistant against wear and tear. Polyethylene can be recycled to be used over and over again in numerous applications. PE resin will withstand rugged use [and] will not break when subjected to harsh use. PE resin requires no treatment or conditioning to withstand difficult conditions.

When metal or wood is subjected to continuous sunlight, the UV rays from the sun will weaken and make unstable the finished product. PE will not change or become weaker due to the UV resistance and additives in PE resin that protect it from sunlight exposure. PE resins for rotational molding contain the highest UV protection package of any PE resin.

The welded aluminum frame will not rust and is powder coated for additional protection.

CS: Our best seller is the Geo-Vase. I think it’s the size of the stacked up unit that grabs people’s attention. They see this large stacked unit and want to know more about it. They can see the four chairs and one table interlock to make this large vase shape. The Geo-Globe and the Deck-Cetra interlocked units aren’t as obvious. At first they can’t see how it works but once we explain to them what they are looking at they are blown away by them all.

The Geo-Globe is the only model that has two different sized chairs, two large and two small. The two large chairs hide the smaller chairs inside of them. It has the same concept as the nesting dolls where you have a smaller one hidden inside the larger one.

The Deck-Cetra has the added appeal for those wanting a furniture piece that they can also use inside as it also acts as a shelf and cabinet set. This unit is great for kids' rooms as it can be stacked up for storing things and then opened up for a large size drawing desk. It is also easy to wipe clean which is a plus!

Geo-Globe

CS: Each wicker piece is backed with a two-year warranty. We stand behind the quality and warrant to the original purchaser that our furniture [and] all of its parts and components are free of material and workmanship defects for two years. The warranty does not apply to damage resulting from abuse, accident, alteration, improper assembly, misuse or tampering.

CS: We recommend that the cushions be stored in a dry place when not in use. In the off-season, the cushions from your wicker furniture should be stored inside your home or the garage. If space allows, move the furniture itself inside, too. The unit comes with a free tailored rain cover so it’s always best to use it when it’s stacked up [outside]. Put it in a spot outside where it is sheltered somewhat from the worst of winter weather.

The furniture is sturdy enough to be cleaned with a garden hose or pressure washer. You generally only need to rinse it thoroughly with clean water to wash away dirt and grime, but can be cleaned gently with a soft sponge and mild soapy water.

I like the idea of creating a backyard oasis [and] I enjoy functional and fun pieces. The Rock Canyon 3-in-1 table is where I do my entertaining. It comes with an ice basin (with umbrella hole) which is perfect for keeping drinks cold and in arm's reach for everyone. It also comes with a fire bowl which makes for a romantic setting when it’s just a small group.

I also use the Aztec Allure pizza oven as it is again a multi-functional piece. You can use it as a chiminea to make a fire and roast marshmallows, [or it] can be used as a grill to make hotdogs and hamburgers.

I use the Geo-Globe set as it fits the best with my style. I also use our new Deck-Oh! zen accent rugs under my furniture and around the deck. These rugs are bonded with a flexible commercial grade non-slip backing which makes it stay in place in wet or dry conditions. They add a touch of style to any space.
