Company History

Thomasville Furniture Industries was founded in 1904 in Thomasville, North Carolina, near the furniture capital, High Point.

Two brothers, T.J. and C.F. Finch, owned the lumber mill that supplied Thomasville Furniture Industries with lumber for manufacturing chairs. Thomasville Furniture soon fell into debt to the two brothers for $2,000. Unable to pay the men, the company convinced the Finch brothers to accept stock in the company. The brothers realized the opportunity this presented them and accepted. They then set about buying out all of the company’s stockholders.

This was the beginning of the Thomasville you know today. The Finch brothers had great business acumen and by 1917, built the Thomasville Chair Company into a powerhouse manufacturer with over $1 million in sales. These innovative businessmen implemented the first furniture company national sales force.
